WILLIAMSBURG — The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 4548 is collecting individually wrapped candy until Monday, Oct. 13, for donations to the Pineapple Inn & Housing Community in Williamsburg.

The goal is for the children at the Pineapple Inn to be able to enjoy a trick or treating. The group says it will be making and filling goody bags on Monday evening and delivering those and the rest of the candy so it can be distributed.

The Pineapple Inn & Housing Center is a short-term stay housing facility for international students and precariously-housed people in the community.

The group says it has been working with Pinapple Inn on various initiatives for the children over the last several years. In addition to Halloween candy, it has also provided Easter candy and baskets, as well as Christmas angel tree collections.

“This is what the club is about. A lot of people don’t realize that we’re there or the things that we do, but it’s about charity and giving back to the community,” said Katie Bartholomew, the secretary for Auxiliary 4548.

The club said anyone interested in donating can do so by dropping the candy off at the club — located at 113 Palace Lane Unit N in Williamsburg — when it opens at 5 p.m. by ringing the doorbell.
