YORK COUNTY — The York County Board of Supervisors met on Feb. 1 for its monthly work meeting in the East Room of York Hall, 301 Main St.
There were two presentations on the agenda:
The first presentation was an update as to how York County was using the money it received from the federal stimulus package known as the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), .
County Administrator Neil Morgan and County Grants Coordinator Greg Gillette went over the line items that the ARPA funds had been earmarked for in prior meetings.
County officials have prioritized using the funds for one-time expenses with 80 percent of the $13.3 million going towards capital projects such as installing a dark fiber network for county use, retention incentives for county employees and purchasing an ambulance for York County Fire and Life Safety, as well as other purposes.
The other presentation heard that evening had to do with county redistricting. The item was brought before the Board during past meetings, but was tabled until the federal and state levels had redrawn voting maps in accordance with the 2020 U.S. Census.
According to the State Code, populations between county voting districts must be within a certain percentage. As a result of the 2020 Census, Districts 1 and 3 of York County have grown enough in population to warrant the county to redraw the district lines.
The Deputy Director of Planning and Development Services for York County Tim Cross presented the board with two options that would satisfy the population requirements in all districts. Maps of the proposed changes can be found on the York County website.
The Board of Supervisors meets twice a month. The first Tuesday of every month is the work meeting. The regular meeting is held on the third Tuesday and takes place in the board room of York Hall.
