Williamsburg Police said a Newport News man has been arrested in connection with “numerous vehicle break-ins that occurred last month” in the city.

George Pope IV, 18, is charged with one count each of grand larceny, credit card theft, property damage and 18 counts of entering a vehicle with intent to commit a crime, police said.

Pope was arrested Tuesday by Newport News Police. Williamsburg authorities said they believe he had accomplices.

A vehicle was stolen last month from the 600 block of Richmond Road and numerous car break-ins happened in the 200 block of Lewis Burwell Place — items including credit cards, car keys, ID cards, were taken from the vehicles.

Police said the stolen vehicle was recovered but with damages amounting to about $1,000.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the break-ins or know of who may have helped Pope to call the Williamsburg Police Department at 757-220-2331.
