Child Development Resources was recently awarded a grant to continue and expand its services to fathers in the community through 2025.
That’s to the tune of $897,740.
The federal grant, “Fatherhood FIRE (Family-focused, Interconnected, Resilient, and Essential): Igniting the Change,” will allow CDR’s Fatherhood Program to continue important work in the community by offering workshops, mentoring programs, home-based parenting consulting, finance education, and job help services, according to a news release from the organization
CDR is a local nonprofit that serves more than 1,400 young children and their families in the Historic Triangle each year by providing individualized therapies and early intervention services to ensure that every child, no matter their circumstances, can reach their full potential.
“We are excited to announce that this grant will allow us to reach even more fathers in our community, in order to partner with them on the skills they need to be the best fathers they can be to their children,” said Paul Scott, CDR’s executive director, in a prepared statement. “In addition, this grant will allow us to expand the service we offer to fathers and fathers to be so that we can help them with nearly every aspect of their journey as a parent – from financial education to assistance in finding a job.”
CDR’s Fatherhood Program supports dads and families with one-on-one and group assistance with parenting, relationships, health, employment, money matters, and personal growth opportunities.
“We are especially thrilled because only 5% of existing grantees are re-funded for this new 5-year cohort, so this renewal speaks volumes about the quality of work CDR’s Fatherhood team is doing in our community,” Scott said.
Amy Bornhoft, director of training for CDR, said family engagement is a cornerstone of the Fatherhood program.
“Engaging children’s fathers or other key male figures is essential for a child’s development,” Bornhoft said.
