Man with possible early stages of dementia missing; last seen in Yorktown

UPDATE 2:05 p.m., Jan. 29, 2020: Gary Powell has been found and is safe, according to police.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

Police in Poquoson are asking the public for help in finding a 63-year-old man missing since Jan. 22.

Gary Leroy Powell was last seen at Pop’s Drive In at 6555 George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown around 7 p.m. that day, police said.

He was wearing a camouflage jacket and possibly a short sleeve polo shirt and khaki pants. Police said Powell does not have money on him and did not take his medications, and may be suffering from early stages of dementia.

Police said Powell may also be driving 1998 Honda Odyssey with Virginia license plates 2887PN.

He is about 6-foot tall, weighs 175 pounds and has brown hair and green eyes.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen Powell or know of his whereabouts to contact Poquoson Police Lt. James Fox at 757-868-3501, or email at james.fox@poquoson-va.gov.
