Virginia State Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night on Bypass Road as a 68-year-old man from the United Kingdom.
Michael Craine, of Isle of Man, United Kingdom, was crossing the road with his wife around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Bypass Road when he was hit by a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, Virginia State Police wrote in a news release.
Craine and his wife were not in a crosswalk, and the Volkswagen was “unable to stop in time to avoid” Craine, state police said. The Volkswagen then hit a 2011 Ford Edge.
Craine’s wife crossed the street without being struck, and made it to the other side.
State police said the driver of the Volkswagen is an adult male resident of Williamsburg. He was not injured, nor was the driver of the Ford.
Police closed the eastbound lanes of the road Tuesday night following the crash to allow investigation of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation.
