Those who travel on Bypass Road in Williamsburg may have noticed some recent construction underway.
And there’s going to be more soon.
Construction on an auto body paint and repair shop called Caliber Collision has begun, bringing a six-bay repair shop with two painting booths to 317 Bypass Road, said Sam Daniel, senior planner for York County.
“There will be parking up front and then storage in the back where they’ll store cars waiting to be painted or needing parts or things like that,” Daniel said.
The York County Board of Supervisors approved the project’s special use permit in July 2018.
The 18,869-square-foot facility is next to the site of Sam’s Xpress car wash, which is also in the process of getting all its permits for construction. Daniel said the developer hopes to file all the necessary paperwork and schedule a preconstruction meeting with the county within the next two to three weeks.
Sam’s Xpress was approved by the Board of Supervisors in May 2018, but any project with a special use permit needs to submit the site plan for review by the planning department.
After the site plan is approved, planners will write an approval letter. At that point, the developer files various paperwork to get a review from the stormwater division, then a land disturbing activity permit and preconstruction meeting, Daniel said.

The two projects are by two different developers but will share utilities and a driveway, Daniel said.
“They’re tied to Sam’s Xpress because access has to come through their property,” he added.
