VIRGINIA BEACH — Read Across America Day will be taking place at elementary schools across the nation on Friday, and this city will be participating.
More than 200 community volunteers, including Khalilah Camacho Ali, former wife of Muhammad Ali, will read to more than 6,000 students in the 260 Virginia Beach early care and education classrooms, city officials said.
Read Across America Day highlights the importance of reading aloud to children.
Each child who participates will receive the book “Happy!” written by Virginia Beach’s own Pharrell Williams.
“Happy!” is from Williams’s beloved hit song and highlights the very best of childhood imagination and play in a delightful blend of illustrations, featuring children celebrating being happy.
