NORFOLK — A 14-year-old was killed Monday night after being hit by a car while riding a scooter here.
Investigators said the teenager was trying to cross the street on his scooter at the intersection of Shoop and Peronne avenues shortly before 8 p.m. when he was struck by a car.
Police did not say whether the teen was a boy or girl.
When first responders arrived, they found the teen lying in the roadway. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the car stayed at the location and was not injured. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash, police said.
Once the Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team completes their investigation, their findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for determination of charges, police said.
