A Williamsburg woman has been charged with felony child endangerment after she backed her car into a tree Tuesday night, police said.

Jennipher Anne Thompson, 35, is charged with two counts of child endangerment and reckless driving following a vehicle incident at a hotel in the 3000 block of Richmond Road, Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley.

Police responded to the hotel around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Police learned that Thompson was backing up her vehicle when she hit the tree. She had two juveniles, both under the age of 7, in the car with her.

Neither of the children were hers, but they were known to each other, Riley said.

There is no information on how fast Thompson was going when she backed into the tree, Riley said.

The children were not injured, but Thompson sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

While she was being treated for her injuries, the Williamsburg officer obtained arrest warrants for reckless driving and two counts of child endangerment.

She was arrested and transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
