VIRGINIA BEACH — Sounds, sand and sea: Music is the theme this weekend as a beach-inspired variation on “Woodstock” comes to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
“Sandstock, A Tribute to Rock & Roll,” a free music festival of cover bands, runs Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 1. The Oceanfront concert series will run from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. all three days, according to Beach Street USA’s website.
The performances, which are free to the public, will be on two “dueling” stages — the Hippy Dippy Stage and the Flower Power Stage — built right on the sand at 24th Street.
The 2018 Sandstock will feature tribute bands covering songs of well known musical groups — including the Motley Crue tribute band “Mostley Crue” and a Fleetwood Mac tribute band named “Rumours.”
Sandstock 2017’s lineup featured covered bands for Led Zeppelin, Boston, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Journey.
