A 32-year-old woman was arrested June 30 after police allegedly found marijuana, cocaine and two firearms in her car.

A James City County police officer was monitoring westbound traffic on Jamestown Road near the Jamestown Beach entrance around 7:15 p.m. when he observed a 1991 Honda with dark tinted windows pass by, police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams said.

The vehicle, driven by Monick Denise Wright, of Surry, was pulled over by the officer for the tinted windows, Williams said. In Virginia, front windows may not be tinted to transmit less than 50 percent of light, and rear windows no less than 35 percent.

The test showed the front and rear windows were both under 30 percent, Williams said, but Wright was not charged.

While the officer was conducting the traffic stop, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the car, she said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a backpack containing 13 grams of marijuana, plastic baggies, 7 grams of cocaine and two handguns, according to police.

Police also found between $5,000 and $10,000 in cash, but Williams said she could not specify the exact amount.

Wright was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit.

“The plastic baggies and the amount of marijuana would indicate she’s probably distributing, and thus the possession with intent to distribute charge,” Williams said.

Wright remains in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg. She is scheduled for a hearing in the Williamsburg-James City County General District Court at 1 p.m. Aug. 1.
