Norfolk woman killed in I-264 crash

NORFOLK — A woman was killed in a crash on I-264 east Friday afternoon, according to state police.

The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. near the 12-mile marker when a Dodge Caliber and a white BMW attempted to move to the right lane at the same time. Ricardo Fray, the driver of the Dodge, swerved to avoid the BMW. The Dodge then spun around and drove off the right side of the interstate, hitting the Jersey barrier, police said.

The two vehicles never came in contact with one another, police said.

Erica Fray, 36, was riding in the front seat. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Ricardo Fray was brought to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police say his injuries are non-life-threatening.

State police are asking anything with information about the white BMW to contact Chesapeake State Police Dispatch at #77 on a cell phone or 757-424-6800.

The crash remains under investigation.
