W&M police say body found on campus that of middle-aged man

UPDATE July 10, 6 p.m.: Officials at the College of William & Mary have released the identity of a man found dead near the Dillard Complex on campus Friday night.

According to William & Mary spokeswoman Suzanne Seurattan, the man has been identified as Lonnie E. Dove, 54, of Williamsburg.

“We do not suspect foul play in this incident but await a final determination by the medical examiner,” Seurattan said in an email Monday.  “We know this is a difficult time for the family and our thoughts go out to them.”

UPDATE July 8, 12:19 p.m.: The body discovered at the College of William & Mary’s Dillard Complex was identified as a 50 – 60 year old man, according to the college’s spokeswoman Suzanne Seurattan.

Foul play is not suspected, but officials are waiting for a final determination on the cause of death to be conducted by the medical examiner’s office, according to a news release.

William & Mary officials do not believe there to be any connection between the man and the university.

“We all feel a profound sadness for this loss of life and will send our heartfelt condolences to his family,” Seurratan said.

Original story: Police at the College of William & Mary have begun a death investigation after a body was found on campus shortly before 8 p.m. Friday.

According to William & Mary spokeswoman Suzanne Seurattan, a passerby discovered a man’s body in an outside area at the Dillard Complex off of Ironbound Road.

“There is no indication that the deceased is affiliated with the university but verification is still underway,” she said.

According to Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley, the college police department is heading up the investigation. He said Williamsburg Police are not involved in the investigation.
