James City County Police are advising motorists to drive cautiously on Route 5 if they plan to travel near Chickahominy Riverfront Park this weekend.
Sprinting, running, and bicycling events will be held on roadways nearby the park during a triathlon event, according to a James City County news release.
REV3 Williamsburg, a group that bills itself as a leader in family friendly racing events throughout North America, is hosting a triathlon at Chickahominy Riverfront Park on July 8 -9.
The road race events are expected to start at the park and end across the Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge in Charles City County, the release said. Other road race events will use the Virginia Capital Trail which may result in traffic delays.
Swimming events at the triathlon will result in closings of the fishing piers in the park during the event, according to the release.
Boat ramps at the park will also be closed, except to small crafts such as kayaks and canoes during the event, according to the release.
For those looking to cheer on event participants, parking can be found at Chickahominy Riverfront Park as well as Barretts Ferry Landing, the release said.
Fishermen still looking to snag “the big one” this weekend can toss a line off the piers at Powhatan Creek Park and Little Creek Reservoir Park. Boaters wanting to get on the water have multiple options including the Brickyard Landing, Diascund Reservoir Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, and the James City County Marina, according to the release.
REV3 Williamsburg has been hosted nearly 5,000 athletes in the county since 2013. This is the second time Chickahominy Riverfront Park will host the event, the release said.
