A center for independent workers to share space and ideas has celebrated its official opening in James City County.
Work Nimbly LLC — previously known as CoWork Williamsburg — had a ribbon-cutting event Monday at 215 Ingram Road. The business will operate on the second floor of building, which is near the Five Forks intersection.
Coworking allows individuals to set up shop in a communal space, working for an hour, a day or in a more permanent arrangement.
The program uses a mix of “heads down” time — for quiet concentration — and “heads up” hours for sharing ideas, group troubleshooting and forging connections. Guests also enjoy free wifi, coffee and the social perks of an office setting.
Work Nimbly started meeting on Wednesdays at the Williamsburg Regional Library, but wanted the advantages of a professional home for the entire work week.
The space in James City County allowed Work Nimbly to have a stable work area for drop-in visitors and an office each for the three founders Natalie Miller Moore of Moore than Words, Gretchen Bedell of Odd Moxie Studios and Design, and Jenn Haynes of A-One Mobile Bookkeeping.
“We’ve been both the coffee shop workers trying to do business in a loud, bustling place and the people trying to get work done among the distractions of home,” Moore said in a news release from the county. “Coworking combines a quiet place to get down to work with the social interaction of other professionals.”
The space is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Wednesdays at Work Nimbly are free as part of its grand opening, as are first visits. Otherwise, day passes cost $15 and monthly memberships are $250, which includes storage. A meeting room can be reserved for $25 an hour.
