A man charged with allegedly producing pornographic images of a York County teenager pleaded not guilty in a federal court Thursday.
Virginia Beach resident Michael John Baigert Jr., 20, was arrested in October 2013 after a 14-year-old Yorktown girl accused him of raping her in the woods behind the Willow Lakes subdivision in Grafton.
His case has recently gone into the hands of the U.S. District Court, which charged him with four felony counts of producing child pornography and indicted him to a federal grand jury Sept. 10.
Baigert is accused of sending photos to the 14-year-old through an online program called Kik Messenger in August 2013.
He is alleged to have convinced the girl to meet with him in the woods behind the subdivision in August 2013 after telling her he was 16 years old. After walking around the neighborhood, he allegedly raped her, according to deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Baigert was originally charged with rape, object sexual penetration and use of a communication system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.
He waived his preliminary hearing Thursday during his arraignment and retention hearing in Norfolk. He will be tried by a judge 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Newport News.
