Volunteers are needed for an upcoming project to protect local water quality.
Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, City of Williamsburg and James City County are seeking assistance to pick up trash and litter along College Creek on March 29. The project will be from 9 a.m. to noon.
College Creek, a tributary of the James River, is frequently soiled by litter, debris, and other pollution swept off streets, parking lots, and lawns after a rainstorm.
The runoff pollution threatens the water quality, ecology and wildlife of the creek. It also affects the James River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Volunteers will clean up College Creek in the section below the High Street development. They should wear clothing appropriate for the weather and come prepared to get muddy or wet.
The event is family-friendly, and children are welcome if supervised by a responsible adult.
Lunch will be provided.
Those interested in participating should register online.
