James City County is gearing up to explore the idea of extending Mooretown Road to Croaker Road, and will host a public meeting to launch a study on the extension.
The Mooretown Road Extended Corridor Study is expected to take place over 12 to 15 months, beginning with a public meeting April 17. The study will look into possible extension routes from Lightfoot Road to Croaker Road, and the benefits and effects to area business and property owners.
The public meeting will include a presentation about current and projected traffic in the area, a review of environmental concerns and a look at the real estate market. The public will be invited to provide input for consideration during the study.
The Mooretown Road Extension was included in James City County’s 2009 revision to the Comprehensive Plan, which is used to guide development in the county. An analysis revealed the extension could help during emergency evacuations and heavy traffic. The extension could also open up land for development.
