One student was taken to the hospital after a fight involving three people in a hallway at Bruton High School on Friday morning.
Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the school at 10:06 a.m. The school’s student resource officer — also a YPSO deputy — was already on scene as the fight started near him. Ivey said it is unclear what the fight was over but that there were no weapons involved and the injuries of the person who received medical attention were “slight.”
York County School Division spokesperson Katherine Goff said the incident occurred shortly before the bell was to ring signaling the change of class. The school was not placed on lockdown, however movement in the building was restricted for about 15 minutes.
The case remains under investigation, and charges against the juveniles are pending.
Bruton High School Principal Alexis Swanson contacted parents with a message after the incident occurred.
