WILLIAMSBURG— After decades as a local campground, the York County site formerly known as Williamsburg Campground officially began a new era Friday, July 10, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating its transformation into Camp Jellystone.
The ceremony featured appearances by Yogi Bear, Cindy Bear, Boo Boo and the park ranger, along with local officials who gathered to celebrate the campground’s transition into a Jellystone destination.
York County Board of Supervisors Chair Douglas Holroyd has a special connection to the campground, which was where his dog, Boo, was found after going missing in 2023. The incident also led to changes in City of Williamsburg ordinances regarding lost pets.
“This campground has been around for forever, about 50 years and it’s gone through a few different changes,” Holroyd said. “It’s nice to see this rejuvenation.”
Sen. Danny Diggs, who was also in attendance, recalled his own connection to the campground, saying he lived at the site for six weeks in the 1980s while his home was being built.
“We’re glad that you’re here and sustaining this instead of having a developer turn it into an apartment complex. So thank you so much for being here, and we appreciate it,” said Diggs.
Northgate Resorts developed the Jellystone campground and owns 35 campgrounds across the country. Before becoming Camp Jellystone, the site operated as Williamsburg Campground.
The park offers themed cabins, RV sites and tent camping, along with activities for children and families, including splash pads, mini-golf, nature trails and seasonal events. A full list of activities and camping availability is available at jellystonewilliamsburg.com.
