The Williamsburg-James City County School Board appointed Terry Stone as the new chief financial officer for the school system at a May 14 meeting.
Stone is currently the director of financial operations for the Hanover County School System. She will join WJCC schools June 10.
“There seems to be a wonderful community and a strong governance in terms of the city, the county and the schools,” Stone said. “I’m looking forward to working with all of them.”
Stone has worked for the Hanover school system for the past 4-and-a-half years. Before that, she worked for the local government for 20 years. She is currently a member of the King William County Board of Supervisors.
She said that throughout the interview process she was impressed with the strength of the WJCC school system.
Stone, a certified public accountant who served on the King William County School Board from 2004 to 2011, earned her bachelor of science in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also took postgraduate courses there in public administration and is a certified public accountant.
“I am very pleased that we have found an experienced financial leader who has worked both on the school division and county sides of budget development and oversight,” said WJCC Superintendent Steve Constantino. “I believe Terry Stone will be an asset to our organization.”
The current WJCC chief financial officer, Scott Burckbuchler, will begin work as the superintendent of Essex County Schools in June. Constantino described Burckbuchler as a “huge asset” to the division when he announced his departure in February.
