The James City County Board of Supervisors accepted two grants and a resolution to consider amendments to ordinances about the county’s landscaping at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
A grant of $11,520 from the State Homeland Security Program was awarded to the James City County Fire Department’s Division of Emergency Management. The grant will be used toward programs such as community emergency response teams, Neighborhood Watch, volunteers in police service and the Citizen Corps Council.
A grant of $243,868 was awarded to the Fire Department to be used toward the purchase of an ambulance and a Monitor/Automatic External Defibrillator. The grant included $121,934 from the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund and a match from the county’s Capital Projects Fund and the General Fund.
Also at the meeting, the supervisors approved a resolution to ask staff to forward findings about county landscape ordinances to the Planning Commission Policy Committee. A group assembled for the purpose of analyzing the county’s existing landscape ordinances found some areas of landscaping were too dense.
The board adjourned to its budget retreat, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
