York Notebook: High School Ski Trip, Holiday Closures

It’s a quiet week around York County as the holiday season kicks into full swing. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!

 

York County Announces Holiday Closures

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes scheduled closures of county buildings.

County offices, the York Poquoson Circuit Court, the General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Courts, Libraries and the Waste Management Center Administrative Offices will be closed today, tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension will be closed from today through Wednesday as well as Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

The Transfer Station and Recycling Drop-Off Facility will be open today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be closed tomorrow and Jan. 1. It will be open Dec. 31. The VPPSA Compost Facility will be open today from 8 a.m. to noon. It will be closed tomorrow and Jan. 1.

There will be no curbside garbage or recycling pickup tomorrow. Garbage collections scheduled for tomorrow will take place on Wednesday, collections scheduled for Wednesday will take place Thursday, collections scheduled for Thursday will take place Friday and collections scheduled for Friday will take place Saturday.

Garbage collection scheduled for Jan.  1 will take place on Jan. 2, with subsequent pickups each pushed back a day until Jan. 5.

Recycling collections scheduled for tomorrow were picked up last Saturday. Collections on Jan. 1 will take place Saturday.

Register Now for High School Ski Trip

York County Parks and Recreation has scheduled its 12th annual high school ski trip to Wintergreen Ski Resort near Charlottesville for Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. Students must register by Friday, Jan. 18.

All high school students who live in York County are eligible for the day trip, including students who attend private schools and those who are homeschooled. The trip costs $89 per person, which includes a ticket for a chartered bus, a lift ticket, equipment rental and a beginner’s lesson.
