
JAMES CITY COUNTY — A garage fire damaged a home in the 200 block of Charter House Lane in the Powhatan Secondary subdivision in James City County Friday.
According to the James City County Fire Department, units responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 4:32 p.m. Dec. 12. Neighbors called 911, reporting a fire on the garage side of the home and confirming that the resident had already exited the home.
Fire officials said crews arrived to find a significant fire in the attached garage, with extension into the room above. Firefighters quickly extinguished the main body of fire in the garage and moved inside to check for extension into the living space. The fire was brought under control by 4:55 p.m., according to officials.
The garage sustained significant fire and smoke damage, with extension into a finished room over the garage. The living portion of the home sustained some smoke and water damage, according to officials.
One adult occupant was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, officials said. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the James City County Fire Marshal’s Office.
