WILLIAMSBURG— Williamsburg drivers and pedestrians will see major roadwork and accessibility upgrades this spring and summer as the City of Williamsburg resumes its annual paving program, starting Wednesday, April 15.

The City has hired Allan Myers and its subcontractor, 360 Services, to complete road improvements, including milling and paving streets and replacing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps along Jamestown Road, York Street, and Richmond Road. The southbound travel lane on Capitol Landing Road will undergo milling and repaving to correct uneven pavement caused by a previous water main installation.

The city says shoulder and occasional short-term lane closures, as well as sidewalk closures at specific locations, may take place for ADA ramp work. Temporary lane closures will occur during the milling and paving process.

All work is scheduled for weekdays; no construction will take place on weekends in April, May, or June. All work will take place during daytime hours except for the milling and paving work along Richmond Road, which will occur overnight. The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions.

The Virginia Department of Transportation State of Good Repair program covers the cost of the Richmond Road ($1.9M), Jamestown Road ($752K), and York Street ($412K) projects, for a total of approximately $3.1 million. The Capitol Landing Road milling and repaving are paid for with the City’s Capital Improvement Plan funds, totaling approximately $48,000.
