WILLIAMSBURG— On April 10, Ray Ray’s Plants held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate six months of operation of its brick-and-mortar location.

Rachel Neighbors, who moved to the area with her husband several years ago, originally launched the business at markets on weekends, selling plants, stickers, and other items she designed. However, when she found out her family would be growing last September with twins on the way, she realized that continuing to do markets wasn’t going to be sustainable. This led her to the decision to open Williamsburg’s first dedicated houseplant store.

“I’m a frequent flyer, I love this place. I think about why. It’s because [Rachel] has created something that is beautiful, something that is joyful, and something that is really creating community,” said City Council member Stacy Kern-Scheerer.

“For me, Ray Ray’s has become more than just a place for me to do business,” said Neighbors during her speech at the ribbon cutting. “It has brought a lot of people together, and that is something I’ve always wanted to do in Williamsburg. We wanted to create a space for people who loved plants and to bring that community together.”

In addition to thanking the city and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, Neighbors also thanked the owners of Silver Hand Meadery, Glenn and Sherri Lavender, who she said encouraged her to take the leap in opening the store. She also thanked her husband and family for their support in the venture.

Ray Ray’s Plants is located in Midtown Row, at 226 Monticello Ave, and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To learn more about the business and its offerings, please visit the official website.
