Poquoson Adopts Strategic Plan

POQUOSON — Poquoson City Council adopted a Strategic Plan that includes a vision statement, mission statement, four strategic initiatives, and two additional focus areas at its February meeting.

“Poquoson is a distinctive and cherished community. Through thoughtful actions, strategic investments, and meaningful initiatives, we are committed to building upon the city’s strengths, ensuring its long-term sustainability, and preserving its unique character. Our goal is to maintain and enhance Poquoson as one of Virginia’s exceptional places to live, work, and thrive,” reads the vision statement.

The focused mission of the city states, “Building on and maintaining Poquoson’s strong financial foundation, the City Council and staff will collaborate to deliver exceptional public schools, public safety, and effective government services. We are dedicated to making purposeful investments in our community’s quality of life while fostering complementary, balanced growth and development.”

Four strategic initiatives and two additional areas of focus are included in the plan.

Poquoson Mayor David Hux applauded City Manager Randy Wheeler for his work in developing the Strategic Plan.

“In this year, 2025, we are having a lot of firsts from what I can understand based on advice from people more knowledgeable and experienced than I,” stated Hux. “The statement we have is a direct result of the time in vested that day. The draft that Randy developed enabled us to get to where we are very efficiently and in very short order. If it were not for Randy’s draft version it would have taken significantly longer to arrive at where we are now.”

Hux also thanked council member Jeanne Hubbard for helping share the document and stated, “Thank you, Jeanne, for your contributions and thank you to the rest of the council members for weighing in as well and providing the basis for what that draft was based on.”

The motion unanimously passed.
