
YORK COUNTY — Fire caused significant damage to the garage area of a home in the 700 block of Baptist Road in the Lackey area Monday night.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. on the night of January 6, personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, along with mutual aid from the Newport News Fire Department, were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
Officials stated that upon arrival, fire and rescue units observed fire and smoke conditions predominantly from the attached garage area.
Four occupants and two dogs were home at the time of the fire and had safely exited the structure. The occupants had been alerted to the fire by smoke alarms according to the Facebook post.
York County Department of Fire and Life Safety said firefighting crews quickly located the fire in the garage area, which was extinguished shortly after arrival with significant fire damage occurring in the garage area.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, officials confirmed.
The Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants.
