HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Get ready to “boost” local businesses this season with the Buck Stays Here pop-up events.
The events allow shoppers to purchase a $50 Visa gift certificate for just $25 — doubling their money while supporting local area businesses and restaurants in the Historic Triangle.
For the fourth year in a row Chesapeake Bank has partnered with the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce; Yes; Williamsburg Economic Development; James City County Office of Economic Development; York County Economic Development; Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association (WARA); and 92.3FM The Tide, 107.9FM Cannon Country, and WYDaily to infuse money into Greater Williamsburg.
Since 2021, the team has sponsored $50 VISA gift certificates, sold for only $25 throughout various events as part of Chesapeake Bank’s “The Buck Stays Here” initiative to support local businesses.
“When we choose local businesses, there’s a ripple effect, not only do more dollars stay in our communities, more local jobs are created, there’s an impact to local taxes, and other benefits, says Reggie Rossignol, Community Manager, AVP for Chesapeake Bank. “Our goal with these events is to shine a line on our businesses and “Boost” the impact we can make as a community.”
Consecutively, the partners increased dollars to $100,000 in 2023, when they also introduced a regionally branded card.
In 2024 they are returning with the same, noting that a larger portion of the funds will go directly to WARA gift certificates and its registered Williamsburg restaurants.
“WARA is proud to have the partnerships and support to be able to provide a great value for the customer as well as a valuable impact on our local and dynamic restaurant industry,” stated WARA Director Rachel Sears.
The team has already held their first of three events at Regal Cinemas in New Town. There are two remaining opportunities for the community to purchase the discounted gift certificates — Dec. 11 at Copper Fox Distillery starting at 11 a.m., and on Dec. 18 at the James York Plaza in front of Dominion Dogs and Williamsburg Florist at 11 a.m.
Derek Mason, Managing Partner for Local Daily Media, the parent company of 92.3FM The Tide, 107.9FM Cannon Country and WYDaily, said, “We’re excited to once again collaborate with Chesapeake Bank, The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, and our local EDA’s to champion the ‘Shop Local’ movement. For nearly 20 years, we’ve been dedicated to supporting our local community, and these pop-up initiatives perfectly embody the spirit of togetherness and celebration as we kick off the Holiday shopping season here in the Historic Triangle!”
Those attending should be prepared that events are rain or shine. During previous sales, people have started lining up four hours early, so cards sell out quickly.
Purchases are made with cards only, and there is a limit of two gift cards per person.
