On Your Mark, Get Set, Go: Fundraise With Child Development Resources

(Child Development Resources)

WILLIAMSBURG — Child Development Resources (CDR) is hosting its Super Hero Dash Fundraiser on Saturday Aug. 10 at the Vineyards at Jockey’s Neck.

This year’s race features a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile fun run, the Super Duper Trike Trek, food, music, awards, and more to benefit CDR.

Superheroes from The East Coast Alliance of Cosplayers will be on hand as well.

Established in 1965, CDR provides early intervention services for babies, young children and their families. Whether a child is facing developmental delays, a lack of resources, or other special needs, CDR provides the necessary support for both the child and the family to succeed.

The 501(c)(3) public charity also provides to expectant moms, fathers, childcare providers, and training for early childhood professionals.

The community is invited to attend, participate and channel their inner Super Hero — costumes are encouraged.

Returning for a second year is the “Super Duper Trike Trek,” featuring ten brave riders racing tricycles.

The Super Duper Trike Trek is a way for CDR to utilize virtual peer-to-peer fundraising, explained Nancy Wigley, CDR Special Event Coordinator, “People want to know what they are going to see for their donation.”
The Trike Trek can trace its inspiration to COVID, when CDR hosted a virtual fundraising challenge where participants were encouraged to raise money and post a video of themselves jumping in a mud puddle. The success of that event had Wigley thinking, “maybe people really do want to see a spectacle!”
After brainstorming ideas for what people can do if they reach a fundraiser goal, Wigley said, “Last year, we eventually landed on we are going to ask people to participate and ask them to raise $2,000 and then have them race against each other on tricycles.”

It was wildly successful and the Trike Trek is
returning for round two.
In addition to the races, Alewerks Brewing Company is sponsoring a CDR fundraiser event at its main taproom on Saturday, Aug. 3 between 2-5 p.m. Trike Trek racers, and their tricycles, will be on hand.

The 5K run/walk can be competitive or casual and all families may participate in the 1 mile Family Fun Run.

Registration is open up to the day of the race.
