HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Now in its 25th year, Aug. 4-10 marks National Farmers Market Week.
The National Farmers Market Coalition states the goal of National Farmers Market Week is to highlight the vital role farmer’s markets play in our nation’s food system.
If you love shopping at your local farmers market and eating with the season, Virginia is for Farmers Market Lovers Trail is for you. This trail connects local food lovers with Virginia’s farmers markets, farms, and farm-to-table restaurants.
The Historic Triangle has several markets to choose from and all are free to the public:
- Williamsburg Farmers Market, located in Downtown Williamsburg on Duke of Gloucester Street, is open every Saturday (rain or shine) until the end of October. Its mission is to sustain, foster, and operate a weekly farmers market in Merchants Square for growers and producers to sell fresh seasonal food and farm products direct to consumers in the Williamsburg area. Open 8 a.m. until noon.
- Yorktown Market Days is an award-winning market that features family-owned and operated farms selling their products at Riverwalk Landing on Saturdays from May through October. Shoppers are sure to find their regular favorites, as well as new varieties of fruits, vegetables, and pasture-raised meats. Open 8 a.m. until noon.
- Toano Open Air Market, on The Village Green at 7891 Richmond Road in Toano opens every Saturday from March until Christmas (weather permitting). Local farm produce, products, artisans and music. Open 9 a.m. to 1. p.m.
- KelRae Farms run a market selling local produce grown right on the farm, and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- The Toano Volunteer Fire Department Farmers Market is located on Forge Road, across the street from the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Station. Runs mid March through December on Saturdays from 9 a.m until 2 p,.m. and during April through October on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
