HAMPTON — ESPN’s Jay Harris is set to emcee the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula’s 36th Annual Steak ‘N Burger Dinner to celebrate and honor the club’s “Youth of the Year” finalists.
“The Steak ‘N Burger event is a powerful expression of our commitment to empowering the youth of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. Honoring the ‘Youths of the Year’ underscores their resilience and potential, fostering a community that invests in their dreams. This event is more than a celebration; it is a collective pledge to provide opportunities and empower tomorrow’s leaders,” said BGCVP President and CEO Hal Smith.
According to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula (BGCVP), the event, scheduled for March 21 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, will bring together leaders, supporters and residents.
Hampton City Vice Mayor Jimmy Gray will lend his voice to kick off the festivities. Also in attendance will be Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck, Councilman Chris Bowman, Councilwoman Hope Harper and Councilwoman Martha Mugler. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula President & CEO, Hal Smith, and Board Chair Stephen Sigmon are also set to give remarks and present awards, the organization said.
The evening’s festivities include food, conversation with club members, talented youth and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Awards. The regional “Youth of the Year” winner will be announced and awarded the Tommy Olaisen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship to conclude the evening. The winner will represent BGCVP in the statewide “Youth of the Year” competition.
Lifetime Achievement recipients William “Bill” Saunders, Harry Simpson and George Wallace will also be recognized.
