Virginia Capital Trail Foundation: End Summer with the Cap Trail Summer Challenge

RICHMOND — As the season winds down, the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation is inviting people to finish their summer strong by taking an active journey along the Virginia Capital Trail.

The Virginia Capital Trail is a 51.7 multi-use, fully-paved trail that runs through the City of Richmond, Henrico County, Charles City County, and James City County.

From now until Sept. 11, participants can choose a distance goal and sign up to run, bike, walk, skate, or dance their way along the Virginia Capital Trail, according to the foundation.

“The Capital Trail Summer Challenge presented by Atlantic Union Bank is a celebration of health, fitness, and community. Participants can choose between three unique distance goals and conquer the Virginia Capital Trail their own unique way,” the foundation said.

Participants can complete the entire 51.7 miles of the Virginia Capital Trail, double down for 103.4 miles, or complete 413.6 miles — the equivalent of eight lengths inspired by the Capital Trail’s eighth birthday).

Distance goals can be completed all at once or in sections, with the only requirement to pass each mile marker on the Capital Trail between Jamestown and Richmond at least once in either direction. The remaining mileage can be logged anywhere on the Trail or somewhere new.

For those who have been active this summer, those miles count, as any distance covered from June 1 onwards can be applied towards the mileage goals. Participants can register today and retroactively log their achievements.

Those who successfully complete their mileage goals by Sept. 11 will earn the first Conquer the Cap Trail medal to commemorate their accomplishments.

An End of Summer Party on Sept. 16 with top-finisher and best photo prizes will allow participants to celebrate their achievements and connect with fellow trail enthusiasts. Registration is $30 before Sept. 11.  All proceeds support the work of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.

Registration is live online.

The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to protect, promote, and enhance the Virginia Capital Trail, and to serve as a resource, community builder, and connector to other trails throughout the Commonwealth.
