NORGE 一 Kerri’s Fight will host its third annual car, motorcycle and truck show Sunday at Norge Crossing, raising money for single mothers with breast cancer.
The show runs Oct. 18 at 115 Norge Lane. Vendors and vehicles can set up at 9 a.m., and the public is welcome starting at 11 a.m. Trophies will go to the winning vehicles.
Kerri’s Fight began 15 years ago to help a local mother raising a high school-aged son after she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.
Russ Gibbons, the group’s president, said the woman’s mother, a fellow Moose Lodge member, asked whether he and the lodge could help. He organized a fish fry to offset the cost of her treatment and of caring for her son. She’s now doing well.
The group gained nonprofit status three years ago, and the event has since outgrown the Moose Lodge and moved to the Norge Crossing parking lot.
“It’s been really fun, watching it grow the way it has,” said Dawn Vernette, the treasurer for Kerri’s Fight.
Attendees can see the participating cars, trucks and motorcycles, eat from Cook’s Burger Bar and listen to 1950s and ’60s music from DJ Big Perm. Hammerhead Performance Diesel will also be on hand. There will be a raffle and a 50/50 drawing, with prizes including local restaurant gift certificates, a Williamsburg Jewelers gift certificate, a stay at Vacation Villages and a foursome at Williamsburg National Golf Course. The event ends at 4 p.m.
Each vehicle category (car, truck and motorcycle) will have three awards: people’s choice, kids’ choice and best in show. Independent judges will select the best in show.
Registration is online. Vehicle owners pay $20 to pre-register or $30 the day of the show. Admission is $5 for attendees, and children 12 and under get in free. Attendees receive three people’s choice voting tickets, children 12 and under receive one kids’ choice ticket. Extra voting tickets are $5.
“I like to see healthy, happy people and if it’s something that I can do to be a part of that, then absolutely,” Gibbons said.
