GLOUCESTER — A log truck overturned, resulting in a six-vehicle crash on Route 33 — Lewis B. Puller Memorial Highway — at Route 17 in Gloucester Wednesday afternoon.

State police were dispatched at around 3:47 p.m. and found that the log truck had been traveling southbound on Route 17 and attempted to turn westbound onto Route 33.

According to police, the log truck, a 2002 Sterling tractor-trailer, then overturned, losing its load. The logs went into the eastbound lanes of Route 33, striking four vehicles stopped at the traffic light. An additional vehicle then struck a log in the roadway.

The log truck driver was identified by police as 33-year-old Princeal Graves of the 4900 block of Strand Drive, Williamsburg. He was transported to Walter Reed Hospital with minor injuries, police said. One additional driver was transported to Walter Reed Hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation by police revealed that speed was a contributing factor. Graves was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of vehicle, police said.
