Donation and Volunteer Opportunities with Local Community Organizations

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — As the end of the year approaches and the holiday season arrives, many are looking for ways to assist our local, community nonprofit organizations.

WYDaily has compiled a list of some of the nonprofits doing work across the region. If you know of an area nonprofit that should be on this list, let us know.

3e Restoration aims to extend gracious hospitality among the socially displaced and to systematically change the cycle of poverty.

A Gift From Ben. After losing Ben in 2001, this family decided to open a food pantry in his honor. A Gift From Ben provides food to those in the Williamsburg community.

Avalon Center works to end domestic and sexual violence by breaking the cycle of abuse through prevention, education, shelter and support services in the Williamsburg and Middle Peninsula communities.

Bacon Street Youth and Family Services creates healthier families and more resilient youth through evidence-based behavioral health and substance use services for adolescents, young adults, and their families.

Colonial Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) has a mission to recruit, train, and support volunteers to promote the best interests of children giving them the opportunity to thrive. CASA provides Court-Appointed Special Advocates who are voices for abused and neglected children, and matches adult Mentors with youth 10-18 years old to build trusting relationships, competencies, and self-efficacy skills.

Community of Faith Mission is a Faith-Based Emergency Shelter Program that serves those experiencing homelessness in the Greater Williamsburg Community during the coldest months of the year.

FISH, Inc. is a volunteer-operated, nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing, and small housewares to persons in need who live in Williamsburg, James City County and York County.

From His Hands is a Christian Ministry made up of churches and other caring groups in our community that serves meals to those in need in the Williamsburg & James City County area.

Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers hot, nutritious meals daily to vulnerable adults and families in the Williamsburg area.

NetworkPeninsula has a mission is to raise awareness of the needs on the Peninsula, encourage involvement from the community at large, and strengthen the nonprofits working to meet these needs.

Peninsula Agency on Aging supports the independence and quality of life of Peninsula residents primarily 60 years and over by advocating, arranging, or providing vital human services.

Proclaiming Grace Outreach provides a holistic approach to the needs of the community by providing food, clothing and other services to help the disadvantaged and those with economic hardships in the New Kent and Upper James City County.

St. Olaf Food Pantry provides food to area families in Upper James City County.

The Arc of Greater Williamsburg‘s mission is to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through community activities and advocacy.

The Salvation Army works to alleviate human suffering and distress without discrimination.

The York County Food Closet serves the residents of York County and Poquoson.

Virginia Peninsula Foodbank helps to distribute food effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition and encourage self-reliance through education.

Williamsburg Faith in Action provides volunteer-based support to seniors 60 and older living in their homes in Williamsburg, James City County and the Bruton District of York County (Greater Williamsburg Area).

Williamsburg House of Mercy provides a safe and welcoming environment for area homeless to find respite, receive services, and work toward ending their homelessness, and emergency assistance and supportive services to those struggling to maintain housing and regain stability.
