WILLIAMSBURG — The annual “Costume Sale,” sponsored by William & Mary’s Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM), will pop up for two days this October to benefit FISH, Inc.
This year‘s event opens Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 8-11 p.m. for the popular twilight sale and reopens Thursday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event is put on completely by volunteers from several local organizations and takes place at the Sandler Center on the William & Mary campus.
“The Costume Sale has been such a wonderful campus and community collaboration over the years!” John Hopke, Catholic Campus Ministry Director said. “As the staff of CCM, our main role has been to help connect the dots and make sure that everything is working smoothly between the student leaders and volunteers, community volunteers, and the university.”
Hopke continued, “It is exciting for the students to play such a critical role in pulling off such a large-scale event with such an amazing impact in the community. Catholicism has a long and rich tradition of social outreach ministry, and this event has been a great way to connect students with an opportunity to respond to Christ’s call to serve, in a way that is fun, upbeat, and uplifting.”
“The fact that student leaders change each year is balanced by our dedicated, long-term community volunteers. We hope to nourish their thirst for social justice and service to the community. Their energy and enthusiasm inspire us. Together, it’s been quite the team!” added Karen Berquist, a FISH Volunteer and the event organizer.
The Costume Sale provided $8,200 in funds last year that assisted FISH in providing food and clothes to the local community.
