Tuesdays Are For Running and Cycling

JAMES CITY COUNTY — Every Tuesday evening, a group gathers outside of Billsburg Brewery for comradery and fun. While the beer is a bonus, this group is here to exercise.

Billsburg Brewery, located on the water at the James City County Marina hosts both a cycling and running club on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. There is no fee to attend, but, participants are asked to register and sign a waiver.

A 5K course, which varies per night, is mapped out for runners who start at the brewery. Riders are asked to check in with Williamsburg Area Bicyclists before they meet in the Jamestown Settlement parking lot.

“Not long after I moved to the area, I started coming and riding. Since then, I have met dozens of amazing people through the cycling community,” said Jack Lindenmuth, “It is fun to come to Billsburg for both health and recreation.”

When the run/ride is completed, participants get $1 off any tap beer or specialized slushies that evening. A free Billsburg Brewery T-shirt is gifted with your tenth run or ride.

“We have some members who have reached their 75th!” said Darcy Williams, Marketing & Events Director. “So, we want to do something special for the big milestones as well.”

Starting Thursday, June 1, a paddleboard/kayak club will be added to the mix. Paddle on of Williamsburg will be on hand to give a brief lesson before the group sets out at 6:30 p.m. from the marina launch.

A member of the local Sweat Like A Mother (SLAM) group, Patterson enjoys coming out to Billsburg, “It is a fun atmosphere to come and hang out, plus the people here are great. We get to exercise, socialize and enjoy a good beer!”
