Community Business: Blessing & Blooms Florist

WILLIAMSBURG — True to its name, Blessing & Blooms is committed to serving the community through more than just spectacular floral arrangements.

Owned by Rebecca Gibson, who took over the space from the former 1-800-Flowers business in May of this year, says Blessings & Blooms aims to be more than just a flower shop, “we want to be an active, positive influence in the community.”

Blessing & Blooms is a full-service florist that incorporates Gibson’s vision to bring other small businesses together in one space.

Floral arrangements may be what initially brings in the customers, but while there they can browse from a selection of curated locally sourced items including soaps, sugar scrubs, art pieces, hand-crafted cards and crafts from other regional vendors.

“I didn’t want the business to only be a blessing to my family, I wanted it to be a blessing to others in the community as well. We have been very excited about the connections we have made and the people we have met,” stated Gibson.

Gibson has also built partnerships with local flower growers, such as Gloucester’s Under the Stars Farm, to showcase local, seasonal options.

The space brings family together as much as community.

“I purchased the shop with the intent that my mom, who has been a floral designer here in Williamsburg for 45 years, would come on board and train my oldest daughter,” Gibson stated. “This was a great opportunity for the three generations to work together. My youngest daughter, and even my grandchildren, help too.”

They offer classes in floral design, wreath making, candle making and paint nights throughout the year as well.

Blessings & Blooms Florist is located at the Shops at High Street and is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To learn more about their events visit the Facebook page. To order online, visit the webpage.
