NEWPORT NEWS — Riverside Health System (Riverside) announces a substantial investment in increasing its team member’s compensation.

On Thurs., Oct. 7, Riverside released a statement on its website and Facebook page regarding its plan to increase its team members’ compensation.

Beginning January 2022, team members up through the manager level will receive an increase in compensation of up to 17 percent. This will reflect an additional $20 million investment from Riverside in its team members.

The statement reads that the plan to increase compensation was made as a token of gratitude from the Riverside leadership, board and the community for the physical and mental challenges faced by its team members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every individual in our organization is essential to the high-quality care our patients receive, which is why our recognition efforts are directed at those who have continued to tirelessly support our community during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Riverside Health System CEO Bill Downey. “We are proud of their resilience and commitment to Riverside, our patients and residents over the past 18 months, and we will continue to grow as an organization in order to maintain the safety, health and wellbeing of our team members and the communities we serve.”

Starting pay for team members will increase to $15 an hour and there will be further pay enhancements.

Approximately 8,000 of the health system’s team members (more than 80 percent of its workforce) will benefit from these changes. Team members who will be impacted by this will receive notification by Nov. 19, 2021.

Riverside has also announced that it will enhance its employee assistance programs with new mental health support groups for its care providers.

“Investing in our workforce is a strategic priority for our organization,” said Riverside President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Dacey, M.D. “We are grateful to every Riverside team member for their dedication to our mission and for continuing to make us the employer of choice in the region.”
