Harris Teeter customers can soon fill their gas tanks after filling their carts.

Construction has begun on fuel pumps out front of the Harris Teeter store in Lightfoot, at the intersection of Centerville and Richmond roads.

“Barring any major weather or construction delays, we expect to be open by Spring 2019,” Harris Teeter spokeswoman Danna Robinson said in an email.

There will be five pumps once completed, Robinson said, and they will sell regular, mid-grade, premium, and diesel fuel.

The pumps will be open to the general public, and not just shoppers who have signed up for Vic cards.

However, Vic rewards program members will receive discounts on gas each time they shop inside the store.

Customers will rack up “Fuel Points” for each purchase in the supermarket.

Each dollar spent means one fuel point, and each time a customer gains 100 Fuel Points they will save 10 cents per gallon of fuel they pump at the Harris Teeter fuel station.

Purchases on certain prescriptions and purchases made with partner gift cards will also earn members Fuel Points.

Shoppers can save $1 per gallon after collecting 1,000 Fuel Points, for purchases up to 35 gallons.

Fuel Points can also be cashed in at participating Amoco and BP locations. If points are not used by the end of the month in which they were purchased they will expire the following month.
