VIRGINIA BEACH — June saw 289 new business licenses issued by the Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue, 54 fewer than were issued in May, while the city issued 340 in July.
Among the happenings in recent months are:
- Hope School, 5350 Providence Road in Kempsville, has expanded and is now Hope Academy. In addition to preschool, they’re now offering childcare for toddlers and for a limited number of infants. They can be reached at 757-424-5894.
- Bradenton, Florida-based First Watch, The Daytime Café, opened its first Virginia Beach location on Aug. 20 in the Market Square shopping center at 2850 Virginia Beach Blvd. First Watch serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and features traditional breakfast items, healthier options, soups, salads, and sandwiches, as well as coffee, tea, soda, and juice. They also offer a kid’s menu.
- Icon PowerSports opened at 564 First Colonial Road on June 16. They offer motorcycle sales, service, and rentals, and work on consignment as well as having motorcycle-related apparel. They’re open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 12-4 p.m.
- Lolly’s Creamery and Soup Co. opened recently, selling ice cream and soup made right here in the 757. Lolly’s ToGo is located at 4966 Euclid Road while Lolly’s is also being sold at their Pungo Ice Cream Stand, 1776 Princess Anne Road (Pungo Square Shopping Center). The ice cream is also available at the Sage Kitchen in Virginia Beach and Coaster Coffee in Norfolk. If Goey Butter Cake, Coconut Chip, Cotton Candy, and Double Dark Chocolate sound good to you, or perhaps a bowl of crab soup, you might want to give Lolly’s a try. Hours and available flavors can be found online.
- Dunkin Donuts has purchased a 2,034-square-foot commercial building and .46 acres at 3529 Virginia Beach Blvd., the former home of the Disk and Laser Institute. No word yet of what their plans for the location are or if the building there will come down.
- Richmond-based North End Juice Co. is coming to Hilltop East. As the name implies, they’ll feature fresh-pressed juices, as well as smoothies and coffee. There’ll also be wellness shots, salads, and food, such as flatbreads, hummus, and wraps.
- Hilltop East is also soon to be home to another Virginia Beach Marco’s Pizza, which currently has locations on Virginia Beach Boulevard and Independence Boulevard.
- The Crunchy Carrot has relocated. The business, which sells locally sourced, cold-pressed juices is now in the Leaping Lizard Café, 4408 Shore Drive. Crunchy Carrot juice orders can also be picked up at a number of local gyms, yoga studios, wellness centers, and farmers markets.
- Smoothie Stop Café is now open in Market Square on Virginia Beach Boulevard. Smoothie Stop is a family-run business that focuses on producing quality fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies. They’re open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Saturday.
- London Bridge Smiles will be relocating this fall, from their location on Potters Road to a new, improved, state-of-the-art facility at 1635 Laskin Road. Dr. Alan Kessler and Dr. Tiffany Foster-Kessler offer general and family dentistry, as well as cosmetic dentistry services and more.
