WILLIAMSBURG — An anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $1 million in donations for Colonial Williamsburg infrastructure projects.
The donor will match individual donations for “critical improvements” in the Historic Area for the rest of 2018, the foundation said in a news release.
Some projects include replacing electricity, boiler and climate-control systems at some Historic Area sites; landscape and streetscape improvements; structural renovations such as roof replacement at three sites; and interior work at a fourth site.
Some of the funding will also be used to replace the roof at Lightfoot Tenement, the Raleigh Tavern Kitchen and the Raleigh Tavern Laundry as well as renovate the interior of the Robert Carter Brick Quarter, according to Colonial Williamsburg spokesman Joseph Straw.
“We’re grateful for this generous pledge to match $1 million in gifts supporting Colonial Williamsburg’s infrastructure priorities,” said Cara Sisson, executive director of development. “By design, some of these modern projects aren’t always visible to guests, but they are critical to employees, to the guest experiences and, ultimately, to the pursuit of our educational mission. We greatly appreciate our supporters’ consideration of this proposal and their commitment to this critical institution.”
In the past year, Colonial Williamsburg has also worked to renovation the Art Museums at Colonial Williamsburg, as well at the interior Great Hall of the Governor’s Palace.
