Employees at the Farm Fresh in Norge are being laid off, and have been given a 60-day notice.

SuperValu Manger of External Communications and Public Relations Michael Wilken said employees at all of Farm Fresh locations received the notice, as the company sells off more than 20 of its 38 stores in Hampton Roads.

Two stores in Greater Williamsburg are being sold to rival grocers, SuperValu announced Wednesday. Harris Teeter is purchasing the John Tyler Highway Farm Fresh, and Kroger will buy the store in Yorktown.

The sales are expected to be finalized in May.

The store in Norge was not among those listed as sold on Wednesday’s press release, but Wilken said the company is continuing to work to sell the store.

“We are continuing discussions and exploring potential transactions to sell the remaining Farm Fresh stores to current and prospective SUPERVALU wholesale customers and certain Farm Fresh employees,” Wilken said in an email. “I don’t have a specific timeline to share on the outcome of these discussions other than to say they are ongoing.”

The Farm Fresh store employs roughly 90 people, Wilken said. Notifications dated March 14 were provided to employees in person and through the mail.

Their employment is guaranteed for 60 days, but Wilken said their jobs may extend beyond the 60 day period.

Another Farm Fresh on Merrimac Trail closed in 2017 as the supermarket has struggled in a competitive business landscape.
