Fall will mark the finals days for one local Farm Fresh supermarket.

According to a company spokesman, the grocery located at the intersection of Merrimac Trail and Second Street is set to close within the next two months.

“Farm Fresh has made the difficult decision to close our store and pharmacy located at 455 Merrimac Trail in Williamsburg,” said Mike Wilken, a spokesman for the grocery chain, which is a subsidiary of SUPERVALU Inc.

The store’s pharmacy is expected to close in early September and the store will close by the end of October, Wilken said.

“We appreciate the hard work of our associates at the Merrimac Trail store and their commitment to serving the needs of our customers and the local community,” he added.

Wilken said the grocery chain is “optimistic” it can offer current employees positions at other Farm Fresh locations in the area.

The chain operates 39 other stories in the state and two in the greater Williamsburg area — at 4511 John Tyler Highway and 115 Norge Lane.

“While the decision to close this store and pharmacy is difficult, given the impact on associates and customers,” Wilken said. “It ultimately allows the company to operate more efficiently and effectively within a highly competitive environment.”
