VIRGINIA BEACH — Police found a 23-year-old Virginia Beach man to be at fault in a wreck that sent a Virginia State Police trooper to the hospital.

Kyle A. Mapstone, of the 3000 block of Blitz Court, was charged with failure to yield right of way in connection with the Thursday morning crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, according to the VSP.

The on-duty trooper reporting driving south on Route 13 and exiting the second bridge-tunnel around 7:30 a.m. when a construction vehicle, driven by Mapstone, pulled into the trooper’s lane, causing the crash, VSP officials said.

The trooper hit Mapstone’s vehicle from behind because they were unable to move out of the travel lane without hitting oncoming traffic, according to the VSP.

The VSP car was severely damaged and the trooper suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital.
