Update 2:31 p.m.: Both lanes are clear and a three-mile backup remains, according to Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman Dave Forster.
An accident Monday afternoon blocked all westbound lanes on Interstate 64 near mile-marker 244, according to a tweet from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Traffic was being diverted at Lee Hall (Exit 247), the tweet said at 12:45 p.m.
A VDOT news release around 1 p.m. said there were five miles of traffic congestion.
