SOUTHSIDE — While your Fourth of July may be booked, there are many other events happening in Norfolk and Virginia Beach this week. From gardening for kids to late-night basketball, all you have to do is take your pick.
Wednesday, July 5
You and your best furry friend can hang out and watch “The Secret Life of Pets” at the MacArthur Center Green. Hosted by the Norfolk SPCA, the event begins at 8 p.m. at 300 Monticello Avenue. Admission is free and open to everyone The Norfolk SPCA is encouraging owners to bring blankets and lawn chairs while they provide the first 250 people with Bluetooth headphones to enjoy the flick.
Thursday, July 6
As part of the Town Center’s Fountain Plaza Nightly Entertainment, there will be a live musical performance by Stan the Sax man. The free performance is open to the public and will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. by the the fountain across the street from the Brooks Brothers.
Friday, July 7
Slover Library will host a free musical performance, featuring Folk and Alternative singer songwriter Angela Easterling at 11:30 a.m. The show is a part of a summer “Slover Sounds.”
Later, Norfolk will be hold its weekly late-night recreation program for adults 18 and older. Participants will be able to play basketball, games and more at community centers in Berkeley, Norview and Huntersville from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. There will also be a repeat of Norfolk Nighthawk events on Saturday at the same times and locations.
