How to keep that promise

You promised your children that, when you got older, you wouldn’t be a burden. Your plan was that they could live their adult lives without having to worry about who’s going to take care of you like you did with your folks, or like your neighbors down the street when their mom faced the same crossroads. For them, and you, it would be different.
Luckily, it actually is different.
It used to be the mom or dad, or both, would go from living at home to living in a nursing home, to, ultimately, a hospital. And every step of the process of aging was stressful on them and every family member as well.
Along came the concept of aging in place with a different plan. If everyone, as they get older, will have changing needs at each point of life once becoming a senior, why not create a plan and a place that can take care of their needs through every change?
What followed was the formation of a way to do just that. They gave it the name CCRC, which means continuing care retirement communities. Continuing care. Meaning whatever type of care you need as your needs change.
CCRC: A Community Worth Considering
A Continuing Care Retirement Community is a tiered approach to residential living that offers all levels of services and care. This combination of lifetime housing and care is usually available on the same campus and offers increased levels of care to accommodate a resident’s changing needs as she or he ages. Patriots Colony: A Closer Look at One CCRC Lifestyle
While CCRCs can vary in a number of ways including housing options, grounds, staff, services and overall quality, the “continuing care” designation represents a continuum from independent living to assisted living to memory care to long-term/skilled nursing care.
Another part of your decision-making process is finding the CCRC that feels most like home to you. CCRC’s are especially good at building a community around the interests of its residents and their common interests.
For instance, Patriots Colony at Williamsburg is a CCRC that provides continuum of care services for its residents. The independent living residences at Patriots Colony are exclusively for retired and former military, former and retired civilian employees of federal government and their spouses or widow(er)s.
